  • Phone Consultation

      • Addresses concerns and questions as well as gather information about your child so appropriate recommendations based on their needs.
      • Do collaborate with other professionals and make referrals as needed.
  • Evaluations
    • Provide in-depth diagnostic evaluations if your child’s speech, language and/or reading performance is within expected range for age and grade
    • Evaluation consists of a battery of standardized diagnostic tests as well as non-standardized testing and observation to gain a complete assessment of the child’s abilities
    • Interpretation of testing is considered in conjunction with information about child supplied by the parents
    • After evaluation, a parent confederence is scheduled (without the child present) in order to give a complete explanation of testing and findings and make specific recommendations
    • If child’s performance is below expectation levels, speech/language therapy and/or reading intervention is recommended and goals/objectives for treatment are presented.
    • A formal reporting is written following the parent conference with a copy going to the parents and other professionals the parent requests.
  • Treatment
    • Children are seen on individual basis for about 30-60 minute sessions depending on child’s age and specific needs, as determined from the evaluation
    • Goals and treatment activities are individuals for each child
    • Games are often used to make learning more fun and to provide reinforcement
    • Homework is assigned when your child is ready to practice a skill on their own but with parent available to help
    • Group treatment is occasionally recommended for children who need to practice their skills in a group setting.
    • Intensive reading camps and language groups are offered during the summer.
  • Parent Involvement
    • Parents are encouraged to observe child’s evaluation either in the room (for very young children) or in an observation room where parents watch and listen through one-way mirror.
    • During therapy, parents are encouraged to observe sessions and sometimes participate in the therapy directly
    • After each session, parents are given about child’s progress during the session
    • Home practice is often assigned between session to help child make faster progress
